Barnstable Youth Commission to Host 4th Annual Youth Summit

BARNSTABLE – Teens will gather next week to talk about substance abuse and other issues in a forum organized by students for students.

The Barnstable Youth Commission will present their 4th annual two day Seventh Grade Youth Summit on Thursday, March 15th and Friday, March 16th addressing their views on how to keep the community safer.

In addition to the youth commission, the summit is sponsored by Cape Cod Healthcare, Gosnold of Cape Cod, Barnstable Recreation and the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.

The first day’s program is for parents and the general public and is scheduled for 5:30 PM at the Cape Cod Community College Tilden Arts Center.

The presentation will feature a panel of Barnstable Police Officers who will offer their assessment of substance abuse on Cape, discussing street language, showing off drop paraphernalia, and offering suggestions for how to start a conversation with you kids on drug use.

On Friday, March 16th, there will be an all-day program for seventh graders. The program is designed to arm students with the information that they need to resist substance abuse.

Gosnold Life Coach Kevin Rosario will share his own experiences and offer motivation while interactive hypnotist and magician Rob Hackenson of Dynamic Influence weaves his craft into making good choices and offering examples of how it can be done.

The Barnstable Youth Commission is an arm of the Barnstable Town Council that is charged with addressing the concerns of the youth of Barnstable.

The summit is free and open to the public.
