Bill Would Allow Retired Barnstable Police Officers To Work Road Details

massachusetts state houseBARNSTABLE – State Representative Brian Mannal is one of the sponsors of a bill that would allow retired police officers to work paid traffic details in the Town of Barnstable.

Mannal said the bill will save the town money because the retired officers will not need to be paid overtime.

He said the Barnstable police union and administration are in favor of the bill.

“We have the ability here because we have a lot of recently retired police officers who can come in and basically maintain order on the roads. They are knowledgeable about the laws. It’s a good thing to have someone who knows the community,” he said.

Mannal said he believes the bill will move through the senate fairly quickly this month.
