Buzzards Bay Coalition Adds Nearly 50 Acres to Onset Bay Center

BUZZARDS BAY – Nearly 50 acres of rich salt marshes along secluded Shell Point Bay in Onset will soon become a destination for paddling, boating, fishing, and exploring, now that the Buzzards Bay Coalition has permanently protected it as part of its developing Onset Bay Center.

Located at the head of Shell Point Bay, these 47 acres of salt marsh and buffering coastal forest lie along a scenic bend in the road out to Great Neck.

These healthy natural habitats protect clean water and provide important habitat for fish, shellfish, and waterbird species.

These salt marshes will become part of the Coalition’s Onset Bay Center, which will offer high-quality on-the-water programming such as sailing, paddling, shellfishing, and shoreline ecology to thousands of community members of all ages.

The wide, scenic salt marshes on Shell Point Bay will be open to both Onset Bay Center program participants and members of the public for kayaking, fishing, shellfishing, and other types of exploration.

The coalition will eventually create a small parking area, trail, and overlook so local residents can access the property and enjoy its scenic views.
