Chatham Independence Day Parade Committee Announces 2019 Theme

CHATHAM – New Englanders may still be counting down the days until spring, but the Chatham Independence Day Parade Committee is already getting ready for another parade on July 4.

The committee says the theme for the 2019 Independence Day Parade is “Chatham Honors You! Service Members Past, Present, Future.”

The committee solicited theme ideas from the public, finally deciding on the theme suggested by 9-year-old Sam Foley, in honor of his grandfathers who both live in Chatham and served in in the military.

Sam actually lives in England, but spends his summer vacations in Chatham.

The 2019 parade will honor all men and women who have served the country as the 75th anniversary of D-Day falls just under a month before Independence Day.

The parade will also honor Chatham’s contributions – the Marconi Center, Naval Base formerly on Eastward Point, Coast Guard at Chatham Light – as well as the many soldiers, sailors, and airmen and airwomen.

Prize categories for float entries will be announced by the end of February and the entry form will be available in early March.

Nominations for Parade Grand Marshal will be accepted during the month of May and the decision will be announced in June, Bohannon added.

Go to the committee’s webpage, chathamparade.com, or the town’s website, www.chatham-ma.gov to download the form. Forms will also be emailed to previous entrants in hopes of them joining us again.

The Chatham Independence Day Committee is also looking for additional volunteers to get involved with planning and managing the parade activities. Interested people should contact the committee at [email protected].
