Children’s Museum Offers Fall Fitness Programs

Children's MuseumMASHPEE – Three new fitness and nutrition programs are underway at the Cape Cod Children’s Museum in Mashpee.

Two of the programs focus around the museum’s fitness mascot Choosy, a fuzzy green alien.

The mascots name is an acronym that stands for Choose Healthy Options Often and Start Young.

“Choosy’s Lunch Brunch” is on Tuesday’s from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and begins with a half-hour of music and dancing followed by a half-hour of lunch, brought from home, socializing and take home nutrition resources.

“Through songs, singing and dancing we are encouraging parents to engage with their children and to learn about a healthy lifestyle and making good food choices,” said outreach coordinator Sarah Daley.

“Fun with Choosy,” which is held on Fridays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. is a program where children and adults learn about living healthy, engaging in fun movement activities and nutrition information.

The third program, “Build Our Kid’s Success” is a free physical activity and nutrition program funded by a grant from Rebook.

“This program is geared for preschoolers,” Daley said. “We are hoping we get them at an early age and it will instill in them the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.”

BOKS is aimed at children 2 and ½ to 4 years old and their parents. The half-hour program includes movement and fitness activities, stretching and heart pumping.

“I really try to encourage the parents to try to join in,” Daley said. “It’s a good example for them to be setting for their children as well.”

The BOKS pilot program is held on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 2 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. and will run through December 10th.

All of the programs are free to Cape Cod Children’s Museum members and included with museum admission.
