“Christmas Shorts” at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on December 14

Cotuit Center for the ArtsCOTUIT – The Cotuit Center for the Arts’ 2nd Wednesday Theater will present a staged reading of “Christmas Shorts,” five merry little comedies by Matt Hoverman, on December 14.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on the main performance stage and admission is free.

“Christmas Shorts” offers five hilarious takes on holiday themes: family, the nativity, Xmas cards, and elves.

In “Going Home,” newlyweds Greg and Cheryl have resolved to spend Christmas alone in their tiny apartment for the first time, but Cheryl decides at the last minute, to visit her dysfunctional family, and it is all Greg can do to keep her from going home.

An adult education writing teacher rediscovers his passion in a strange student-teacher conference in “The Student.”

The bond between two male roommates is tested in “The Christmas Witch” by an ex-girlfriend who has a penchant for breaking hearts and feasting on human flesh.

Nelly slowly drives her husband Ned insane as they write their annual Christmas cards in “Xmas Cards.” In “Nativity,” two strangers, one dressed as Mary, and the other as Joseph, for separate holiday pageants, meet in the waiting room of a Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, fertility clinic on Christmas morning.

Second Wednesday Theater is a monthly play-reading series of rarely performed classics, undiscovered gems, and exciting new works. Admission is free, and wine is available.
