YARMOUTH – DeWitt Davenport and the Davenport family was awarded the annual Joshua A. Nickerson Society Award at a reception at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on Thursday night.
The award was established in 1982 to acknowledge and honor the contributions of individuals who have given of themselves to promote the well-being and welfare of the people of Cape Cod.
“It’s wonderful that the Nickerson Society wants to recognize folks in the world of philanthropy and giving back to our community, because we have to engage more folks in order to make our community stronger,” said DeWitt Davenport.
Davenport Companies, a fourth-generation, family-owned business began in 1956 and now employs 1,300 people at more than a dozen companies throughout New England.
Among the companies that Davenport Companies owns is Davenport Realty, Thirwood Place, Cape Cod Fence and Yarmouth Crossing.
“We are very appreciative of the recognition of what many, many people do, not just us, but our family and our extended family, we’re blessed,” said Davenport.
