CHATHAM – Great white sharks are at the top of the food chain in the ocean and one of them will be named after one of Washington D.C.’s apex predators.
An anonymous donor has made a $2,500 donation to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy to name a shark after Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the investigator looking into possible Russian interference in the last presidential election.
Cynthia Wigren, a co-founder and CEO of the conservancy, says the donation is one of many that has been made to the organization since the publication of an interview with an adult film star, who detailed anti-shark comments made by President Donald Trump.
Stormy Daniels said she was told by Trump that he was terrified of sharks and would never donate to any charities which help the marine predators.
In the first four years of a five-year white shark population study, conservancy researchers and state shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal have tagged more than 120 sharks off the coast of Cape Cod.
Researchers will be back on the water this summer studying the species.
