Eastham Turnip Festival Set for Saturday

EASTHAM – Organized by the Eastham Library, the 16th Annual Eastham Turnip Festival will be held today at Nauset High School.

The event is free to the public and includes the blessing of the turnips, a not so solemn moment of turnip reflection.

Other activities include the turnip cook-off and food sampling, turnip shuck-off, guess the weight of the Enormous Turnip, and live bluegrass music with Higher Ground String Band.

Patrons can also stroll through the Harvest Marketplace that features locally grown produce, locally designed handcrafts, local book authors, and Eastham turnips for sale.

The event features lunch with such dishes as pulled pork sandwiches, crepes to order, pizza by the slice, locally made ice cream treats, chocolate confections, and a raw bar featuring Eastham raised oysters and quahogs, which is new for this year.

There will also be a kids “Turn Up for Fun Zone,” which includes a juggler, face painter, balloon artist, temporary turnip tattoos, make and take craft projects, Mr. Turnip Head decoration contests, and Turnip bowling and games.

The event is set to take place today, Saturday, November 23rd from 1 to 4 p.m.
