Emergency Erosion Project Continues in Sandwich

Bare BeachSANDWICH – Work is ongoing in Sandwich on an emergency erosion control project at Town Neck Beach.

The town is working to repair a 100-foot breach in the dunes in order to protect the area from any upcoming winter storms.

The town has already placed about 1,000 cubic yards of sand at the location, and will now place an additional 3,000 cubic yards in this phase of the project.

The project is seen as crucial for downtown Sandwich. “If we did not place this sand in this cut all it would take is one major northeast storm for us to see major flooding downtown,” said Sandwich Assistant Director of Natural Resources David Deconto.

The emergency project came together in a matter of weeks after storms created the breach.
