Falmouth Seeks CPA Money for Bikeway Work

bikeaFALMOUTH – Falmouth Selectmen are seeking $106,000 in Community Preservation Act funds to enter the design and permitting phase of a project to widen and repair part of the Shining Sea Bikeway.

Last year, the town received $890,000 to cover the costs of widening the path by two feet and installing asphalt on the 3.2 miles of the “Phase 1” section.

That 10-mile section, which runs from Crane Street in Woods Hole to County Road in North Falmouth, was constructed in the mid-1970s, and has since eroded in multiple areas.

The $106,000 would be used for contracting a designer to hash out the details and acquire the correct permitting for the final design.

Town Planner Brian Currie said that if the entirety of the money is not raised soon, it may be a topic at town meeting in November.
