Final 2019 Lower Cape Hazardous Waste Collection Scheduled

HARWICH – A Household Hazardous Waste collection will take place Saturday, October 12 for residents and business owners in Brewster, Chatham, and Harwich.

The Harwich Transfer Station at 209 Queen Anne Road will serve as the collection site from 9 a.m. to noon.

This is the last collection of the 2019 season for the three Lower Cape communities.

Toxic materials that can potentially contaminate groundwater, lakes, ponds, and soil in the event of inappropriate disposal and weather emergencies such as hurricanes will be properly discarded.

Anyone who is unsure of what is and is not acceptable for collection should pick up a 2019 HHW brochure. These are available at local town halls, or they can be downloaded from www.loveyourlocalwater.org.

The fee for disposal is based on the type of materials that are collected. If you are interested in disposing of your toxic materials, call Kalliope Chute, the Hazardous Materials Environmental Specialist for Barnstable County and the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, at 508-375-6699.
