Former D-Y Teacher and Coach to Be Honored With Run at Football Game Tonight

marathonYARMOUTH – A former Dennis-Yarmouth High School teacher and coach will be honored tonight at the school.

Alan Carlsen will fire the starting pistol for an alumni one-mile race in his honor at halftime of the D-Y-Falmouth football game.

Carlsen started the track and cross country programs in the 1950’s and 60’s and the school’s track and field is named after him.

“He was a big supporter of the youth of our towns and gave a lot of kids some great lessons in life,” said Brian Carey, chair of the D-Y Regional School Committee.

The race will culminate with the football game at 6 p.m. and the youth football program will be involved.

A tent will also be set in the back of one end zone where past students, parents and staff can meet and greet Carlsen.

The 83 year old started teaching at D-Y in the mid 1950’s when it was located at the John Simpkins School.

“It’s a great addition to hopefully what will be a great evening at the high school football game when we play Falmouth,” said Carey.
