Go Fund Me For Worker Injured by Wood Chipper

DENNIS PORT – A Go Fund Me page has been started for the Dennis Port man who lost most of his left leg in an accident while using a wood chipper while at work in South Yarmouth.

James Blaney, 30, was using the machine on November 16 when the incident occurred. He spent 24 hours in the ICU and will soon be undergoing treatment at Spaulding Rehab Center.

So far the page has raised just over $8,000 with a goal of $15,000.

In the seconds after the accident, Blaney’s coworkers reversed the chipper and applied a tourniquet to his leg and kept him alert until the first responders arrived.

The Go Fund Me page describes him as a kind caring individual, who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Blaney posted the following statement last night:

“Thank you to everyone for all the support, it’s now the 21st of November. It has been 6 days since the accident. I am going back into the OR today, but only to get staples out, legs washed and just a follow up. I have been accepted to the best rehab in our area and #2 in the country. I should be going to Charlestown sometime after Thanksgiving to the Spaulding Rehab Center. I am extremely excited I have this opportunity to re learn how to walk and do day to day activities that I took for granted before the accident, a long with an overall healthy lifestyle. Every donation has helped so much, and I am so thankful and appreciative. There’s going to be a lot of changes, both good and bad, but I’m confident I’ll succeed. I’m confident when it comes down to getting fitted for a prosthetic, I’ll be able to financially afford to do so thanks to all of you. I will continue to keep you updated through my time at Spaulding and hope to one day be able to thank each and every one of you personally!”
