EASTHAM – A guided history walk exploring “the Earth and outer sea” of Henry Beston’s “The Outermost House” will be held next weekend.

The walk is sponsored by the Harwich Conservation Trust and the Eastham Conservation Foundation.

Beston’s book, “The Outermost House,” was published 90 years ago and captured the essence of Cape Cod’s “Great Beach” and served as an inspiration for the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore.

The walk features historian and author Don Wilding, who will tell the story of why Beston, an ambulance driver in World War I, came to Cape Cod, what he experienced during his year on the beach, and how the “The Outermost House” became a National Literary Landmark before it was swept away by the ocean in the Blizzard of ’78.

The walk, on Saturday, July 20, is at the Cape Cod National Seashore in Eastham from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $15 per person and advanced registration is required.

Visit harwichconservationtrust.org to register. Directions will be emailed after registration is confirmed.
