BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts lawmakers are holding a public hearing on Republican Gov. Charlie Baker’s $18 billion transportation bond bill.
Baker says the bill will support a new statewide pavement improvement program, a new municipal pavement program, a new bridge improvement program and a series of initiatives to address congestion.
Baker says the bill also includes improved financing and construction methods to support MBTA capital programs.
A delegation from Cape Cod will testify in favor of plans that would be related to the construction of new bridges across the Cape Cod Canal.
The proposal includes efforts to combat congestion, such as establishing a tax credit to encourage telecommuting and remote working, expanding the use of designated bus lanes and creating a program to reduce bottlenecks on local roadways.
It also includes funding to encourage travel by foot and bicycle.
The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in front of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee at the Statehouse.
