BARNSTABLE – A magistrate’s hearing will be held this week for Frederic Presbrey, the CEO and founder of Housing Assistance Corporation.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Barnstable District Court.

A magistrate will determine whether Presbrey, who lives in Marstons Mills, should be charged with threat to commit a crime after he allegedly told a staffer at his agency that he was going to kill a couple who are clients of the agency. According to a police report on the matter, the clients refused to sign a lease on an affordable home that Presbrey had arranged for them.

Presbrey told police he was just blowing off steam to a colleague, but the staffer reported the threat to police, according to the report.

The couple are the same people who went to police to report that Presbrey’s wife was stealing prescription pills from them. Presbrey’s wife, Melanie Powers, was renting a family home to the family while Presbrey was seeking a more permanent home for them, the report states.

Powers was indicted by a grand jury last week on six charges for the alleged thefts.
