Fisher was delivering mail when he came across a burning home and alerted the residents that their home was on fire.

In a congratulatory letter, Postmaster General of the United States Patrick R. Donahoe wrote to Fisher:

“I want to commend your selfless display of civic duty. You deserve the highest level of admiration for knocking loudly on the door of a home to notify the residents that their house was on fire. Because of your involvement, all the residents and their pets go out of the house safely. Thank you for being the eyes and ears of your community.”
