Joint Base Officials Say Concepts for Affordable Housing in Earliest Stages

BUZZARDS BAY – As the potential concepts for Joint Base Cape Cod bto use some of their land for affordable housing continues to be developed, base officials are urging the community to be patient as they continue working on the project.

They are still in the process of creating the plan, said JBCC Executive Director Christopher Faux, that will get the funding from Mass Development to start the process.

“I caution everybody that it is a concept. It’s simply to get the funding so we can build the plan. We’re dedicated to helping in any way that we can, but it is not a plan yet,” Faux said.

The initiative is a result of local leaders saying housing is the biggest challenge facing the Cape’s economy currently as it struggles to find and keep workers.

Once the base gets a good draft made up, which Faux says there is no timetable for at this moment, then they will be able to move into the next phase of the project.

“That’s when we will basically distribute to our stakeholders, which will start with the MC cubed and of course will be a public meeting so everyone will be able to take a hack at it,” said Faux.

At that point base officials will be able to speak to the public and get their input on the plans as they move forward.
