CHATHAM – A local high school principal is a finalist for a superintendent’s position off-Cape.
Monomoy Regional High School’s Bill Burkhead is one of four candidates to take the reins of the Stoughton school system. He received statewide honors last year when he was named the Massachusetts High School Principal of the year.
Burkhead has been the principal at Monomoy High School since 2014. He was the first principal at the school after Chatham and Harwich regionalized.
He previously spent time in the Plymouth and New Bedford school districts.
The school board in Stoughton is also considering John Marcus, the assistant superintendent in Sharon, East Haven, Connecticut superintendent Portia Selene Bonner, and Stoughton High School principal Juliette Miller for the job.
A decision is expected at the Stoughton school committee meeting on February 13.
The job is open with the impending retirement of Stoughton superintendent Marguerite Rizzi, who has held the position for the last decade.
