Nantucket Historical Association Winter Exhibitions

NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Historical Association is currently showing a number of exhibits both at their Whaling Museum and across the island this month.

Presentations include Out of the Box: Unpacking Nantucket Stories with over 80 artifacts to illuminate the stories of Nantucket’s people over four centuries. Discover life at home and at sea; see the island at work and at play; and encounter rare maps, provocative portraits, and poignant tokens of love.

“Dear Absent Ones”: The Seafaring Pinkhams looks at Nantucket seafaring through the eyes of the Pinkhams, a local family whose sons and daughters went to sea over multiple generations.

The Hadwen and Barney Oil and Candle Factory and the Nantucket Corner will be open as well, as part of the Association’s effort to display more of the 20,000 artifacts in their collections.

The Hadwen and Barney Building is loaded to the rafters with fascinating items that, until now, have been in storage in the collections.

The public will also learn how the historic building functioned as a working factory, something that has been cloaked in obscurity until now.
