Orleans Film Fest Focuses on ‘Hitting the Waves’

SurfersORLEANS – A film festival at the Jailhouse Tavern tonight will focus on catching some waves.

The second and final night of the 3rd Annual Orleans Surf Film Festival runs from 5:30 to 10:30, and features one feature and multiple short films about surfing, snowboarding and other board sports.

A documentary called The Search for Freedom by Jon Long is on the bill, and describes the history and experience of participating in the world of extreme sports.

In addition to film screenings, the festival will feature a gallery of old and new surfboards, photographs, newspaper clippings and other memorabilia.

Sassy Richardson is with the Orleans Chamber, which helped produce the event, and said anyone who loves the ocean and the history of surfing should join in the festivities.

“The whole tavern is turned into a virtual pop-up museum, and the memories are really trapped in this museum that makes you feel like you’re walking through time,” she said.

The Jailhouse Tavern is located at 28 West Road in Orleans.
