Provincetown and Nantucket Issue Shelter-In-Place Order

PROVINCETOWN – Both Provincetown and Nantucket  have issued a shelter-in-place order, effective 5pm yesterday, which closes all non-essential businesses and services.

According to the statement from Provincetown, the shelter-in-place comes in response to the first 2 cases of COVID-19 in the town.

Provincetown will also institute a parking ban for all non-resident vehicles to discourage visitors form coming to town during the order.

Nantucket’s decision came after consultation with Nantucket Cottage Hospital officials, who also warned residents not to go out and begin buying supplies in a panic response to the shelter-in-place.

Both towns remind residents that the shelter-in-place is not a lock-down order, and residents will still be allowed to leave their homes to go to grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, and other essential service providers.
