Relay for Life to Create Mega Cancer-Fighting Event

DENNIS – This June will mark the 21st year since the initial Cape Cod Relay for Life event, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.

Many aspects remain the same but this year there will be one large event instead of several.  Event Chair Marsha Stout said the decision to combine was easy.

“Right now we feel that having this one event is going to be an exciting time for us all to come back together again and have one big celebration on Cape Cod,” she said.

This year’s theme is the Disney-inspired “Once upon a Cure”.

The 24 hour event will take place on June 16th and 17th at Dennis-Yarmouth High School.  Campsites around the track are encouraged.

Stout said that although the planning started a while back, the work is ongoing.

“We’ve been planning since September.  The committee has been working, reaching out to all of the areas, all of the former teams.  We’re just trying to bring everyone together to feel the excitement,” she said.

There will be special activities such as contests, drawings and fun themed laps.
