CHATHAM – Researchers tagged four more sharks off the coast of Cape Cod Tuesday – bringing the season total up to a dozen.

Senior Scientist with the Division of Marine Fisheries Dr. Greg Skomal tagged the sharks off Wellfleet and Truro working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

According to Skomal, this is the most sharks tagged this early in the season.

Researchers wrapped up a five-year population study last year and are now conducting studies to learn more about the predatory behavior of the white sharks.

The research being conducting this summer by DMF and the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is focused on getting a better understanding of the predatory behavior of white sharks in the region.

Another shark was tagged on Billingsgate Shoal in Cape Cod Bay Monday.

This is the first year the research has moved into Cape Cod Bay.
