NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Historical Association will present a ‘Sailors’ Scuttlebutt Lecture Series’ at the Whaling Museum, now through August, featuring a line-up of presentations and discussions connected to the sport.
On July 24th during “Celebrating Sailing” sailor, Gary Jobson will present stories of inspiration on the sport of sailing. He will also live-narrate the screening of his short films on the Olympics, America’s Cup, Canada’s Sable Island, and more.
On August 7th, “The International One-Design, Eighty Years Young” talk with John Burnham will feature a lecture on the iconic International One-Design.
On August 22nd, “Oceans, Human Health, and the Genomic Future”, with guest speaker Craig Venter will present a lecture on Oceans, Human Health and the Genomic Future.
Finally, On August 28th Nat Philbrick will close the series by speaking on his most recent book, a memoir on sailing on Nantucket’s ponds in the 1990s. The book covers a personal tale of Philbrick’s experience as a stay-at-home dad, shifting into his comeback as a Sunfish racer, and more.
