Sandwich Arts Alliance Plans Performance of “Songbird”

SANDWICH – The Sandwich Arts Alliance will tackle a tough subject in a new play they are putting on later this month.

“Songbird” is about an elderly hospice resident, her family, and the music therapist that works with them in the final stages of life.

The original play comes from the New Classics Company based in Hyannis and is written and directed by Justin Jay Gray. It follows the story of Eva, a young music therapist working with Lillian as she enters her final days. Eva will juggle Lillian’s needs with the needs of her family and those around her.

The Arts Alliance calls the play emotionally moving and beautifully written.

Performances are scheduled for Friday July 27 and Saturday July 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday July 29 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $18 and $10 for students and can be purchased at Splash Stationers on Route 6A in Sandwich or at www.sandwichartsalliance.org.

Songbird premiered in Hyannis in 2016 and this marks the first time that it has been performed outside of the Guyer Art Barn.
