Sandwich School District Testing Repaired Swimming Pool with Water

183644298SANDWICH – Students and staff at Sandwich High School are hoping that there are no further problems with the school’s swimming pool.

School officials began filling the pool with water on Monday after receiving the “thumbs up” from the town’s building inspector.

Sandwich Building Inspector Paul Spiro received an engineering report from a company that conducted sonar testing beneath the pool to detect any structural defects and soils, and it came back negative, enabling Spiro to give approval to the district.

Spiro said they are taking their time in the process.

“We’re just trying to do it in the most safe manner possible and at the same point in time, trying to find out where exactly the leak was, or the leaks were,” said Spiro.

Voters approved the spending of $1 million on pool repairs over a year ago.

Those repairs include a new heating and ventilation system and repairs to the pool’s tiles.

Before an occupancy permit is issued, Spiro said he wants to make sure that the pool is able to hold water.
