Slippery Roads Cause Busy Day for West Barnstable Firefighters

west barn fireWEST BARNSTABLE – The slippery roads early this afternoon caused a busy day for the West Barnstable Fire Department.

A pair of single car accidents on Route 6 sent the drivers to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries and caused traffic delays, according to Fire Chief Joseph Maruca.

Maruca said an SUV rolled onto its side eastbound near the exit 5 ramp just before 1 o’clock and the right travel lane was closed off to traffic until the vehicle could be removed from the roadway.

An hour later, crews responded to a second crash in the westbound lanes between exits 5 and 4.

Maruca said the vehicle went off the road and struck the snow bank.

“Those snow banks are solid ice and it’s like hitting a wall,” said Maruca.

The right travel lane was also closed briefly until the vehicle was removed causing some delays.
