COTUIT – The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod unveiled this year’s Citizens Bank Pops by the Sea Commemorative Painting at an event Thursday at the Cahoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit.
Cape Cod-based artist Jackie Reeves was selected to commission this year’s piece, which drew positive reactions and applause when it was unveiled for the first time at the event.
Reeves was chosen as the 2017 artist last fall and said that she was inspired by the music of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra when she was working on her painting.
“The tradition has been going on for 32 years so I felt very honored to have been selected,” said Reeves.
Her painting will be auctioned off at the Arts Foundation’s Spring Soiree which takes place June 8 at the Hyannisport Club.
“This year we really wanted to celebrate something a little bit different and Jackie really delivered on this beautiful piece that has so much energy and light,” said Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Executive Director Julie Wake.
Pops T-Shirt Design Winner Nicholas Glaser and the finalists were also recognized for their work in the Cape-wide competition.
Glaser, who had won the contest previously in 2015 and was runner-up last year, will have his design featured on t-shirts worn by over 300 volunteers and sold at the event.
“I just really love making designs and that’s kind of what I want to do in my career, like maybe doing advertising or stuff like that and I just love making new ideas for projects and competing,” said Glaser.
Nearly 200 entries were received from 5th through 12th grade students across Cape Cod.
