Victims in Fatal Wellfleet Fire Identified

WELLFLEET – The victims of this month’s fatal fire in Wellfleet have been identified through their obituaries.

Fred Kral, Jr., 77, and his wife of 53 years, Cathleen (Cronin) Kral died in the March 11 blaze in their home on Lieutenant Island.

According to their online obituary, the two met in eighth grade and were inseparable ever since.

Fred Kral was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard and in his early professional years he worked in the Accounting Department at the Boston Globe.

He later moved to Europe with his wife and three kids to teach in the American International School in Barcelona for three years.

After that he and Cathleen helped to open the American International School in Nice, France.

When he returned home, he went on to the work for the Canton Public Schools where he taught Business Law and Typing at Canton High School.

Cathleen Kral completed her Masters Degree at Northeastern nights while raising their children, and earned a second Masters Degree from Leslie College in education.

She began her early professional career teaching for the Milton and Dedham Public Schools and went on to serve as the Director of Literacy for the Boston Public Schools before retiring.

Funeral services were held on Friday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
