Vineyard Beach Closed after Shark Sighting

EDGARTOWN – Officials in Edgartown closed South Beach to swimming twice this afternoon after shark sightings.

According to the Vineyard Gazzette, a fin was spotted about 20 yards from shore around noon and a spotter plane confirmed its presence.

The beach was reopened for about 15 minutes before it was closed again due to another confirmed sighting by plane.

Officials were not able to confirm the species.
