Weekend of Running on Tap for Falmouth

marathonFALMOUTH – It’s a big weekend of running in Falmouth. The Falmouth Track Club is hosting the Cape Cod Marathon Weekend which will feature a half marathon Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday.

The half marathon, which is being run for the fifth time, starts at Town Hall at 7:30 a.m. and runs along the scenic coast to Central Avenue where runners turn around and finish back at Chauncery Lane.

The 38th running of the full marathon gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with a start/finish line on Main Street in downtown Falmouth at the east edge of the Village Green.

“There’s about 1,400 people who have registered for the half marathon and another 800 people, or so, will run in the full marathon,” said Bob Haskell, the media Liaison for Cape Cod Marathon Weekend.

Haskell said even though the half marathon is the newer race, it is becoming the popular event of the weekend.

“The half marathon is one that has grown,” he said. “The full marathon has leveled out at about a 1,000 people.”

Registration for the half marathon is closed but there are still available spots in the full marathon, marathon relay and the Clam Chowdah Challenge, which is both the half and full marathons.

Prize money for the event will total $10,400.

Bryan Morseman of Bath, New York set the record in the half marathon last year and won the Clam Chowdah Challenge after finishing second in the marathon.
