Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Offers 2-Day Backwoods and Beaches Field School

WELLFLEET – The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary will host a two-day field school course for adults exploring the backwoods and beaches of Cape Cod.

On October 27 and 28, participants will take the road less traveled, cover new ground and experience the Cape during the fall season.

The extended hikes will explore the backwoods, remote beaches, dramatic dunes, quiet kettle ponds, and sheltering woodlands of the Outer Cape.

Visitors will see “hidden” parts of the Cape Cod National Seashore and local conservation areas that average visitors rarely get to explore.

The hikes will be focused in Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet.

Each walk will average 5-6 miles in length on varied terrain.

The goal is to walk at a steady pace with stops to smell flowers and enjoy birds and other wildlife, along with breaks for water and lunch.

Transportation is provided for the field trips with dinner provided on the first night. Participants are asked to pack a brown bag lunch, drinking water and snacks for each day’s hike.

Sanctuary housing is available at $40 per night, per person.

The cost for the course is $275 and $250 for members.
