Woman pushed into path of moving car in Hyannis during reported drug dispute; 3 arrested

HYANNIS – A drug-related dispute at the Cromwell Court apartments in Hyannis reportedly led to a large fight, three arrests and one person being transported to Cape Cod Hospital with a broken ankle early Saturday morning.

Barnstable Police responded to the Barnstable Rd. location at 1:15 a.m. for reports of a fight. On arrival, they found a woman who had allegedly been pushed into the path of a moving car.

That person, who was not initially identified, allegedly stole a gold coin from Karen Proia, 49, of Brewster. Police said that during the fight, Proia pushed the other women into the path of the car.

Proia was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The woman who was pushed will be summonsed on unarmed robbery charges.

Police also arrested two other people, identified as Valeria Tavares, 38, and James Thoresen, 42, both homeless, with unarmed robbery, joint venture. The two allegedly picked up and attempted to keep the gold coin that was involved in the initial dispute.
