Yarmouth Police Safety Zone for Online Transactions a Success

Yarmouth PoliceYARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department parking lot continues to serve as a Safety Zone Meeting Location for anyone buying or selling goods over social media websites like Craigslist.

The program has been in place for four months and there have not been any issues during transactions, according to Deputy Chief of Police Steven Xiarhos.

Police recommend residents not conduct business with someone that refuses to meet at the police station parking lot which is always under video surveillance.

Other recommendations to prevent being a victim of a crime when making a social media transaction include bringing someone with you, trusting your instincts, and never meeting at your or someone else’s home.

Police also say buyers or sellers should use extra caution when dealing something valuable, always make transactions during the day, always carry a cell phone and let friends or family know your plans.
