Yarmouth Resident to Petition Town Meeting on Motorcycle Rides, Noise

TOWN MEETING VOTESYARMOUTH – A Yarmouth resident has put forward two petitioner’s articles for spring town meeting, which he says affect the community’s quality of life.

Harris Contos said he doesn’t want any more permits granted for motorcycle rides in town and wants the number of citations from the noise by-law reported by police.

Contos said he does not understand why the rides are allowed through town.

“Why are we allowing for processions from motorcyclists who are pretty much known to cause an awful lot of excess noise,” said Contos.

“Why are we not enforcing the law and then allowing motorcyclists, who have a stated position against noise control, the opportunity to parade around town,” said Contos.

Contos said he wants motorcycle riders with modified mufflers to be targeted by police if his articles are passed, and added that he has received support from community members in Yarmouth and nearby towns about his proposal for regulations on the noise.
