Zoning Change Could Open Path for Hotel and Water Park in Bourne

Railroad bridge cape cod canal bourne bridgeBOURNE – Voters at Tuesday’s special town meeting in Bourne will decide on a zoning change article that could allow for the development of a rumored hotel and water park.

A parcel of land just off the Bourne Rotary is split into two separate business zoning districts: Business 2 and Business 3. If passed, the entire area would be zoned Business 3.

“It will reserve the area for business development without single family development,” said Town Planner Coreen Moore.

The zoning change would also allow for an increase in building height by a special permit.

Residential buildings would only be allowed through an open space community with 10 acres or more, according to Moore.

“I think it’s a positive step in the business expansion of the town of Bourne,” said Selectman Donald Ellis.

The article was recently supported unanimously by the Board of Selectmen and is also sponsored by the Planning Board.

Special Town Meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Bourne High School. There are 11 articles on the warrant.
