The NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award marks the fifth such honor that a Massachusetts Maritime team has claimed during this academic year alone, as Buccaneer head coaches Greg Perry, Ray Cabral, Chris Ratches and Chris Ryan copped Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Coach of the Year accolades in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and men’s cross country during their respective fall campaigns.

Juniors James Klose (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and Hayden Lynch (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable), along with sophomore Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian), represented the Buccaneers on this year’s NEWMAC Academic All-Conference squad, which honors student-athletes who have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2014 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.  MIT placed 10 student-athletes on the 2015 NEWMAC Men’s Lacrosse Academic All-Conference team, while Coast Guard (6), Springfield (5), Massachusetts Maritime and Clark followed.

The Buccaneers posted six overall victories under fifth year Head Coach Rory Deegan this spring, as Massachusetts Maritime claimed its second straight Maritime Cup title with wins over rivals Maine Maritime and SUNY-Maritime back in March.  Deegan’s squad also claimed the Admiral’s Cup from the Mariners for a fourth straight spring.

The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence.  Massachusetts Maritime is an affiliate member of the league and participates in the sport of men’s lacrosse along with Babson College, Clark University, the United States Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Springfield College and Wheaton College.
