St. John Paul II Laxmen Stage Stellar Comeback over Cape Tech

HARWICH – Down 6-3 at the half, the St. John Paul II boys’ lacrosse team put on a relentless display of grit in scoring six second half goals on way to a 9-6 victory yesterday at Cape Cod Tech.

Cape Tech had the visiting Lions on their collective heels in the first half of Monday’s fierce lacrosse battle, as Owen McCoubrey netted a hat trick and teammates Dan Dunbar, Mike Looney and Scott Whithers each scored.

But that was all St. John Paul II would afford its host Crusaders, as Tim Jordan and Devon Harding put on a display of athletic skill that had their head coach beaming afterward. Jordan netted a hat trick and Harding had a pair of goals and an assist.

“Timmy Jordan was lean, mean and fast,” Lions’ Head Coach John Moreno said, and added that Alan Fox’s domination of faceoffs spelled the difference. All totaled, Fox won 13 faceoffs on the day.

Matt O’Connor added to the Lions’ goal-scoring blitz in the second half with a goal and three assists, and Lawson and Cal Teceno each scored as well.

Griffin Guerin played an exceptional game in net in the second half for the Lions, Coach Moreno said.

St. John Paul II climbed to 9-4 on the season with the win and will face Nantucket at their place on Thursday in a Cape & Islands League battle. Cape Tech fell to 1-6 with the loss. The Crusaders face Blue Hills Regional Tech today at home at 3:30 pm.

DeSouza Nets Hat Trick but Dartmouth Edges Barnstable Laxmen , 10-8

Barnstable sophomore Brener DeSouza handed in a hat trick Monday on the road, but the host Dartmouth Indians proved too much for the Red Raiders in a 10-8 lacrosse tilt.

Cole Jacobsen matched DeSouza’s output for the hosts, and Logan Crane and Jacob Raposa each added two goals.

Barnstable’s Bo Delaney scored a pair of goals and Liam Shields, Ryan Leonovich and Cam Donoghue each had one score.

Barnstable welcomes Marshfield in a non-league contest on Thursday at 4:00 at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field in Hyannis.
