The Cheap Seats on Ocean 104.7

The Do you remember a time when you could turn on the radio and hear your favorite DJ telling you about a new band that you just HAD to hear?

Every Sunday night, Cat Wilson does just that when she broadcast from “The Cheap Seats” on Ocean 104.7!

The Cheap Seats made its debut on Cape Cod back in 1997 and is still going strong today, giving local and independent musicians from around New England a unique opportunity to share their music on commercial radio and online!

Music fans can learn about up-and-coming artists, as well as find out where to see them play live in our area. Folk, Pop, Blues, Country, Americana – every show offers a playlist with a variety of styles all with one common theme: great music!

A little history from Cat Wilson about the show:

“The Cheap Seats” started as a conversation back in 1996 when a program director handed me five CDs from his office shelf and asked how long it would take for me to put a local music show together. “Give me five weeks,” I said.

Over the years, I have been lucky to get to know so many great people. I have been asked more than once if anyone “famous” has ever been on The Cheap Seats. The short answer is “yes.” The long answer goes like this: The Cheap Seats isn’t about being famous. The Cheap Seats is about sharing great music, celebrating the art of music and all aspects of music education. The Cheap Seats is about hearing what is new. The Cheap Seats is about LOCAL music.

The highest compliments I have ever heard about The Cheap Seats have come from musicians who share the story of the first time they ever heard their song played on the radio. A singer was spending a weekend on Martha’s Vineyard and heard her song, “Countin’ Pennies,” played in a shop. A local fitness expert got a call from a friend telling him to tune in to the show. A Cape singer spent two hours on the radio for the very first time with me and now has outgrown nearly every venue on our little sand spit! A Boston street performer, opening the New England Music Awards, proudly told me that the very first time one of his songs played on the radio, it was on The Cheap Seats. And a 14-year-old Nauset High School student (who has now seen her music world explode) spent an evening doing her homework in the family car in the driveway with her mother and brother, listening for her song to be played on the radio for the very first time.

I would never expect The Cheap Seats to make anyone famous. I just like to share great music. If you haven’t already tuned in to The Cheap Seats, you are missing out. I’ll tell you what – next week, I’ll save you a seat.”

The Cheap Seats air from 8 to 10 p.m. on Sunday nights on Ocean 104.7.
