That Girl’s Blog: My Cape Cod DAY-CATION

Are you one of those people who finds it hard to take a vacation? How is it possible that we can live in one of the top vacation destinations and yet we find it so hard to take time out to enjoy the very place we live?

This week I took a rare day off. I had no plans, no set schedule and no budget. I let myself sleep in! I even remembered to turn off EVERY alarm clock in my house:phone, clock radio, coffee grinder and the dogs! (I fed the pets late the night before in hopes it would make them sleep a little later too- and it worked).

After a lazy cup (or two) of coffee at my own kitchen table (rather than in my car driving down rte 28), I took a trip up to Harwich for breakfast and to try the ever popular MELTAWAYS at Bonatt’s Bakery.

From there, I headed over to say hello my friend Cyndi at the Harwich Chamber of Commerce. She is working on several summertime events including the “Summer Kick Off” on Wednesday July 5th as part of the “Music In The Port” summer concert series.

I couldn’t leave town without stopping by Monomoy Horse and Dog to visit Kelly to see what was new in the world of equines and canine. Kelly is planning a huge event at Brooks Park in Harwich Saturday June 24th that you have got to check out! Well behaved dogs are even welcome to take part in the fun! I am not sure why, but this chew toy that proclaims “I AM BACON” gave me a good chuckle in her shop!

After a little stroll a decision was made to wander towards Chatham. It was a damp and foggy day, so looking for seals was a bit tricky.

Even the Chatham fish pier was a little quiet. BUT, it was perfect weather for some hot clam chowder from the Chatham Pier Fish Market!

After lunch, I wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth with a treat from the Chatham Candy Manor – where they were making a big batch of caramel… Which inspired me to get a couple pecan and cashew turtles! (Yummers!!!)

Since there were no sharks to be seen at the pier, I decided to check out some Sharks In The Park at Kate Gould Park. Businesses can sponsor a “shark” which is decorated and them put up for auction. There were sharks of all styles, colors, textures and themes on display. Here are a couple that caught my attention, including one by the Barnstable Bat Company!

And speaking of baseball…. Have you been to a Cape League Game yet? I caught the very end of the Y-D game at D-Y High School last night just as the sun was going down.

When was the last time you took a day to explore the Cape? Share your favorite DAY-CATION destinations with me: That Girl In The Morning
