CHATHAM – A fire erupted in a house on High Point Drive in Chatham sometime before 4 PM Tuesday. Flames were through the roof when firefighters arrived. Mutual aid from several towns was called to the scene and to cover empty fire stations. There were no immediate reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
From Chatham Fire: On Tuesday November 28th, 2023, shortly before 4 PM, the Chatham Fire Department received an emergency call from the neighbor of 82 High Point Dr. reporting a building fire. Engine 185 responded, off duty personnel were recalled and an automatic response from the Harwich Fire Department was initiated. Captain Ready, in charge of Engine 185, arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the roof of the single-story residence. A vehicle was in the driveway, but nobody was home at the time of the fire. Deputy Chief Clarke assumed Command and a Working Fire Assignment was requested through the Barnstable County Mutual Aid System, bringing personnel from Harwich, Orleans, Brewster, Dennis and Yarmouth to assist at the scene and to cover the station. Personnel from the Massachusetts State Police, assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.
The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical. The fire required extensive overhaul, and crews remained on scene until approximately 7:30 PM. The building suffered extensive fire, smoke, and water damage. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
