Thanks for the Most Important Woman in My Life

I have had a lot of losses in my life over the past 4 years. If you have read any of my previous blogs you know I lost my husband a little over 4 years ago due to a massive heart attack. It was beyond devastating (to say the least).

Well, 7 months after my husband’s passing my mother passed. I pretty much couldn’t function for a year or two. Well, April 3rd was the 4 year anniversary of my mother going to heaven.

My mother was everything to me! Everyone used to say “you’re a mamma’s girl” well yes I WAS and yes I AM! My mother doted on me and quite frankly I loved doting on her! She was a very kind, considerate and loving woman. She gave me every opportunity life had to offer.

One day just as a joke my sister said to my mother you should make a list of all the opportunities you gave to Karen…so she wrote it all out and gave it to me. She didn’t really have to because I clearly knew all the things she did for me. BTW my mother would have never made out a list if my sister didn’t egg her on (it was not her style).

What was on that list…oh let’s see…violin, guitar and piano lessons, skating lessons, ballet lessons, camp, sending me to modeling or back then “finishing school” because she said “you’re going to be in the public eye…you need to know how to put on your makeup properly and do your hair to flatter your face” etc…College was on that list and other things that I won’t mention here…but let’s just say the list was long.

What she DIDN’T put on the list were the most important things and those were things she taught me…like compassion, common sense, kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness and how to be loving young woman. She taught me how to cook too but my sisters took to that a little more than I did.

One of the things I am most proud of is…my mother encouraging me to do volunteer work. I started doing it at a very young age mostly helping the elderly. I continue to do that today. My mother also instilled on me the ability to resist temptation and to have a backbone it came in very handy in the business I am in…having started out on Boston radio at 20 years old.
My mother may be in heaven but she is eternally in my heart every minute of every day!

I love you mommy!
