Eastham Assistant Clerk Wins Race For Clerk Post

election boxEASTHAM – In Eastham, voters yesterday chose Linda Burt and Elizabeth Gawron as selectmen; Steven J. Cole as town moderator; and Joanne M. Irish for the school committee.

But perhaps the most watched race was that for town clerk. Susanne C. Fischer has served as the assistant town clerk for a number of years but there were three others running for the position.

Fischer received 821 votes compared to the runner-up Aimee J. Eckman. Doreen A. Mayer with 182 votes came in third and Leslie-Ann Morse came in fourth with 77 votes.

The totals in the race for two selectmen’s seats were 983 for Burt and 946 for Gawron. The runner-up, Lisa A. Panaccione, received 580 votes.

In the race for moderator, votes were 978 for Cole versus 402 for his opponent Stephen L. Wasby.

In the school committee race, Irish received 869 votes versus 740 for Judy M. Lindah. and 483 for Joseph E. Kopitsky.

All of the questions on the ballot passed.

Question 1, a Proposition 2 1/2 tax override to dredge Rock Harbor, passed by a vote of 1,077 to 341.

Question 2, to pay for snow and ice removal from this past winter, passed by 1,076 to 358.

Question 3, a Proposition 2 1/2 tax override to repair the roof of the Nauset Regional Middle School, a joint project by all the towns in the district, passed by a vote of 1,203 to 227.

About 36.7 percent of voters turned out for the election, for a total of 1,484 people.
