Sewer Reconstruction Efforts Continue On Nantucket

NANTUCKET – The effort continues on Nantucket to reconstruct the South Beach Street sewer.  It had a catastrophic failure on January 4th and dumped large amounts of raw sewage into Nantucket Harbor.

With a few exceptions, the area remains open to traffic and parking.

In an effort to reduce wastewater entering the sewer, residents who use the system are being asked by the town to keep the volume of their water usage as small as possible.

Ways that the public can help in this effort include taking shorter showers, turning off the water when washing hands or brushing teeth and using dishwashers and washing machines only when full.

It is also requested that these appliances only be used during off-peak hours, which are 3:00 to 7:00pm and 11:00pm to 5:00am.
