Truro The Latest Cape Town To Consider Beach Smoking Ban

tobaccoTRURO -The town of Truro could become the latest town on the Cape to ban smoking on the beach.

The Cape Cod National Seashore recently banned smoking at their six guarded beaches, joining Falmouth, Barnstable, Yarmouth, and Eastham, who have also implemented smoking bans on beaches.

“The Beach Commission had proposed it, they all liked the idea, and then they brought it before the Board of Selectmen, who are in agreement with banning smoking on the beaches. They’re currently working on preparing a bylaw,” said Truro Recreation and Beach Director Kelly Clark.

Clark said keeping consistent with the Seashore’s policies would be one of the benefits of the proposal. “It’s confusing for the patron, especially when we have a population that’s coming maybe just for a day and so they’re not familiar with the local laws or the Seashore’s laws,” she said.

There are 11 town-owned beaches in Truro.
