Two Affordable Condos Available In Chatham

CHATHAM – Two affordable condos in Chatham have been listed by Housing Assistance Corporation’s Cape Community Real Estate.

Both are close to downtown Chatham and priced under $200,000.

One is a new two bedroom, two full bath townhouse on Main Street. Gael Kelleher, Director of Cape Community Real Estate, explains how it came to be on the market. “That was made available because the developer needed to build some affordable units in order to build the number of other units he needed in the project,” she said.

There are eligibility requirements such as being a first-time home buyer, earning 50% or below of Barnstable County’s Median Income, and having less than $75,000 in household assets.

Kelleher says there is a great need for affordable housing in this area. “It’s very very expensive to live anywhere on the Cape, but particularly in a community like Chatham where the housing prices are completely out of reach. This is a program designed for people who live and work in Chatham, or even on Cape Cod,” she said.

The other available condo also has 2-bedrooms and 2-full baths. It has many features including central air, and a basement storage unit, and is being sold for $193,000 with a monthly fee of $187.

Housing Assistance Corporation is a 44-year-old nonprofit based in Hyannis, who do their best to make sure that all on Cape Cod and the Islands have a safe, stable, decent place to live. They operate four family homeless shelters.
