That Girl’s Blog: Rumors, Fake News and FEMA

Did you hear the latest on the storm? I heard that flood water was carrying the PLAGUE (FALSE)! I also heard that officials were forcing people to leave their pets and sick people behind (FALSE)! I also heard in some places they cut news feeds so people in the path of the storm wouldn’t know how bad the storm is going to be (ALSO FALSE)!

The internet and social media have taken over our ability to filter real news and information from “Fake News” and rumors. This can be entertaining when you have a heated political debate going at the dinner table. It is, however, extremely dangerous when Mother Nature and lives are in the mix.

Because of the amount of inaccurate and downright dangerously WRONG information spreading faster than hurricanes Harvey and Irma, FEMA ( Federal Emergency Management Agency) has established a “Rumor Control”  page on their website.

PLEASE, share this page so that the people who need accurate information know where to find it. After all, the next storm could set her eyes on Cape Cod, and you might need this information, too!
