Hello, My Name Is: Brian Sances

When was the last time you had the chance to meet someone new and learn a little about them? In this series, we talk with people from around the Cape and Islands by asking them a few questions about themselves and what they like about living in our community. Today we will get to know one of the many local musicians from the Cape who happens to have a CD release party coming up in May.

Hello, My Name Is Brian Sances

Occupation: Singer/Songwriter/ Musician

What was your first paying job?

My brother and I used to sell newspapers outside of Marshland Restaurant in Sandwich early Saturday and Sunday mornings when we were probably about 12 and 10.

When was the last time you laughed really hard?

The last time I laughed really hard was at my dog, Floyd. He is an English bull terrier and is constantly playful and joyous.

Have you always lived on the Cape? If not, where did you live before coming to the Cape?

I was born in Boston, spent a few years in Plymouth, and moved to Sandwich in the early 1990’s, where I was living up until moving to Yarmouth Port this year.

Where is your “go-to” spot for a scoop of ice cream?

I love the Shipwreck in Sandwich!

Do you have a favorite non-profit group here on the Cape?

Transitions Centers in Yarmouth MA. Transitions Centers Inc. provides Day, Employment, and Student Services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, social anxiety, and other life challenges transitioning to greater independence. For the last 3 years I’ve been visiting weekly to play music with the clients there. So much fun and healing too.

What is the one thing you love doing that surprises people the most?

I love playing sports like baseball, golf and basketball.

In a parallel universe, what would you be doing?
I would be a pro athlete!! Either a baseball player or basketball player. I have literally had dreams about hitting a home run over the Green Monster!

What person had the greatest influence on you and why?
My mother. She’s always been there for me my whole life. I dropped out of high school but went back the following year to graduate. She had full confidence in my dream to pursue a career in music.

If I looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I see?
Fruits, veggies, almond milk, a few pitchers of tea and some juice.

If you could go out on a boat fishing for a day, who would you bring ?
I’d love some time with my late Grandfather, Vin Maloney. He was a radio broadcaster in Boston for stations like WHDH. I never had the chance to have an actual conversation with him, so this would be a great way to chat and catch up.
